Live Guide, BrisAsia
The Live Guide, BrisAsia project was a collaboration between gifted illustrator Jessie Miles of In the Daylight and Kerry Turnbull. The Brisbane City Council (BCC) called for Expression of Interest for their Live Guide publication.
The brief was to provide a front cover submission that reflected the BrisAsia Festival community events held in February 2015.
Kerry and Jessie drew on Jessie’s illustrative techniques and Kerry’s art direction and design expertise. The artwork used the concept of a journey, creating a whimsical illustrative map with the oriental iconographic elements and symbols such as the cherry blossom sprig and Chinese fan. Kerry said, “We wanted to show dreamlike travel over the city, diving simultaneously into places and events”.
The winning cover entry went to talented Brisbane based illustrator Lauren Carney. However Brisbane City Council Creative Communities Team decided to re-design the Live Guide BrisAsia to incorporate the map developed by Jessie and Kerry with the addition of specific BrisAsia events.
The guide was reconfigured as A2 (folded to A6) and the illustration was then applied by BCC external design contractors to the Live Guide and AdShell bus shelter advertising.
