2015 The International Year of Light

It is undeniable that light plays a significant role in our everyday lives. It allows us to sustain agricultural growth and maintain our wellbeing. To put it simply – without light, life stops.

The United Nations has declared 2015 The International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies (ILY 2015).  ILY 2015 aims to showcase how light-based technologies can contribute to sustainable development and provide solutions to global challenges in energy, education, agriculture and health.

UNSECO has banded together with scientists, artists, designers, educators and politicians from around the globe to raise global awareness about the importance of light. As you can imagine, this has produced some very creative projects; think illuminated buildings and laneways, light shows and interactive installations lighting up streets around the world. I’ll shine the spotlight on ILY 2015 projects and showcase artists whose interactive work makes them luminaries in art and technology.

I look forward to sharing the voyage of light on Engage Arts blog!
